BUILDING BLOCKS FOR A SOLID FOUNDATION

Mission Discernment and Planning
The Holy Spirit has a unique purpose and mission for each Catholic station in each market where he opens the door for Catholic radio to evangelize. Knowing who God needs you to be and developing a strategic plan to achieve that will make your station the effective tool God has intended. Tapping into this unique mission and creating a plan to fulfill it can be one of the most foundational activities for any station. Fruits of planning include a solid Board with a common focus and mission, clarity in station identity and purpose, and an organized and systematic approach to station activities and goals.

Development and Fundraising
No station can achieve its mission without necessary funding. Learning to find, cultivate and develop long term relationships with donors is key to the launch and long term success of any Catholic radio station. Understanding how to reach donors at all giving levels - foundational, intermediate and high level - and creating the right opportunities for their participation in the life of your station, is a critical skill set for your Board and your staff. Once you understand the fundamentals of Catholic radio development and fundraising, your planning and activities can truly reflect the goals you seek to reach.

National and Local Programming Strategy
Programming is the most hotly debated issue on Catholic radio Boards and it is one of the prime reasons efforts fall apart. Those who serve on Catholic radio Boards often have very strong feelings about what should and should not be included in programming. We all have our favorites and we know what works to deepen our faith, however, very few radio stations that program based on the likes or dislikes of the Board or management will thrive. The good news is that it is possible to program Catholic radio so that you can truly evangelize (rather than broadcasting for subsistence) and keep out the threat of programming that is not true to the teachings of the Church (the #1 fear of Catholic radio broadcasters). Once you have a programming schedule that reflects the needs and wants of the community you serve, you will grow and solidify a loyal audience.
